Wireless Internet Network
   for the Makerere University

The goal of the project was to provide full-Internet access to eighteen buildings on Makerere University's main campus that would make Internet accessible to both faculty and students on the campus in a sustainable manner. In September of 1998, CFI was brought in to conduct the initial feasibility study, and to play the role of project manager and systems integrator, which included integrating donated equipment from three vendors, technical staff support, and developing an information architecture for the entire university. CFI conducted a feasibility study to determine how to best facilitate Internet access throughout the university buildings. The study provided three networking options, a low-cost, mainly wireless connectivity solution, a moderate-cost solution of fiber optic cables, and some wireless technology, and a high-cost network solution of mainly fiber optic connectivity.  read on...

Networking - British American Tobacco (BAT) Uganda

Computer Frontiers International was contracted by BAT Uganda to carry out IT infrastructure assessments and rectify some connectivity problems they were having in their Wide Area Network (WAN) sites in Uganda.

Computer Frontiers provided the following solutions and services to BAT.

Wide Area Network Support

CFI Uganda was contracted to carry out site surveys and assessments of BAT's LAN infrastructure at three remote upcountry sites, and upon completion of this exercise to re-design the LANs at these 3 sites. The resultant outcome of this comprehensive survey would be specification for refurbished LANs at these 3 sites, and in turn specify a design for a Wide Area Network for each of the sites back to BAT's Kampala Headquarters.

The overall objective was to create a seamless supply chain that tracks the procurement of Leaf tobacco right from the purchase point when farmers deliver the leaf to BAT's remote collection centers right down to the time when partially processed tobacco in bales is ready for export. The entire process is automated complete with weighing scales directly connected to PC workstations that take the weight of tobacco into Database systems which data is in turn transmitted over the WAN.
